This beautiful print features a selection of 4 different micro moths from around the world!
The 62,000 or so species of micro-moth include among their number the world’s smallest moth, Stigmella maya from Mexico which measures in at a tiny 1.2 millimetres long as well as one of the oldest living species, the Marsh Marigold moth (Micropterix calthella)
The ancestors of this little beauty were alive over 125 million years ago, meaning this little insect was flitting about when Tyrannosaurus rex still roamed the earth.
Micro-moths are unique among butterflies and moths in that the adults have chewing mouthparts (rather than a proboscis), which they use to eat pollen grains. This is because they’re so old that they evolved before flowering plants, so there was no nectar for them to drink.
Even as caterpillars, micro-moths are amazing. They’re so small that they actually live inside the plants they feed on, burrowing into them and eating them from the inside out.
The print is available as an Ultra Limited edition of 150 A2 and A1 prints as well as an open edition A4 and A3
These beautiful prints come individually numbered and signed and are printed with Archival inks on 100% Cotton Rag, German Etching Paper by Hahnemuehle.
